Today, self-diagnosing has become very common. Social media has seen a new upsetting trend of generalizing mental health issues which makes people self-diagnose. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are a few common issues that are casually referenced on social media. TikToks titled “Signs you have ADHD’’ are widely spread. People, especially teens, fall prey to these videos and self-diagnose which in turn leads to overthinking and more anxiety. Therefore, it is essential to ignore such social media trends and seek professional help. Only authentic diagnosis by a professional should be considered by any individual.

Taboos surrounding mental health still exist in many countries, particularly in second and third world nations. It is crucial to eliminate these taboos and normalize seeking help for mental health, just as it is done for physical health.
